Inaugurated in 2008, the Museo della Canapa of Sant’Anatolia di Narco is hosted in the building that used to be the Municipal seat, and it is one of the “Antennas” of the Valnerina Valley Eco-Museum that was founded to enhance the culture, techniques and ancient knowledge of this territory.

The Museum Display documents the entire cycle of transformation of raw hemp—from farming, maceration and drying up to kneading and carding processes—and displays collections of textiles dating from the 17th to the 20th century. Eight years after the first opening of the Museo della Canapa, the museum presents a new display arrangement.
In the renovated spaces of the exhibit, the theme of cultivation and exploitation of hemp finds a more efficacious illustration both in the household and in the productive environment. The instruments for manufacturing and weaving hemp are exhibited along with a rich collection of textile-handcrafted samples coming from the surroundings, donated by the local families.
The new setting invites the visitor to discover the relations between the objects, their function and their history through a series of multimedia documentaries and display devices of multiple sensorial characters. Among the latter there is the installation of the Spinning Dolls by the international artist Liliane Lijn who lives and works in England.
The main part of the renewal of the display setting are the new Weaving Laboratories, located in the spaces adjacent to the Museum, which were restored with sustainable architecture using hemp and lime. Thanks to this innovative intervention, the Hemp Museum has obtained the distinctions of Green Flag for Agriculture and the Green Heart Quality.
