The oratory was commissioned by the Comune di Foligno and built in 1494 probably by the architect Francesco di Bartolomeo da Pietrasanta. It is located in the area where, in 1489, a prodigious phenomenon happened near a fresco of the Annunciation. The Comune wanted to build a sanctuary so the Virgin Mary would give them protection.

The oratory, in an excellent Renaissance style, boasts the presence of the famous fresco with the Baptism of Jesus, excellent piece painted around the first half of the 16th century by Pietro Perugino.
